7 Steps to Successful Book Publishing

But wait before you begin the publishing process, know about the seven most important steps you need to know before publishing your book. Make sure that you take every step into careful consideration so that your road to success is an easy one:

1. Know why you are writing a book. Are you writing your memoirs for the family, are you writing a community cookbook, are you writing a book of regional interest or are you writing a national bestseller? All of these goals are valid, but each goal has different implications for your business plan. Know why you are writing and know that you can create that bestseller if that is your goal.2. Treat publishing as a business. You are passing beyond the realm of author into the exciting world of publishing. You are not just a writer, you are about to become a publisher who wants to produce a profitable book, and you want to keep the profits for yourself.3. Write a business plan. Being aware of the business aspect of publishing is not an end in itself you need to formally write your plan. It does not need to be a fifty page document with every accounting possibility recorded, but it should outline all of the costs that you will encounter from obtaining the necessary funds to knowing the price of mailing a book. The business plan needs to account for future expenses as well as pre-publication expenses. 4. Plan for publicity and marketing. You must plan for the publicity and marketing of your book. You can have the best book in the world, but if no one knows about it, no one will buy it. You dont want to print books that sit in your garage. You want to print books that will sell, sell, sell!5. Write about a subject that you know well. Dont write about something that you cant talk about without effort. Write about a subject with which you are very familiar and that excites you. Writing the book will establish you as an expert in your field, so choose the topic that causes everyone you know to come to you for advice. The publicity will then be so easy that you will love being the star”.6. Know who will buy your book. So many authors think that everyone” needs and should buy their books. Not so. Perhaps everyone” needs their books, but not everyone” will want to buy. Research and know WHO will actually WANT your book and market, market to them. They will buy!7. Look for non-bookstore markets and do not be afraid of the large discounts. Bookstores are a hugely important market for most authors, but they are far from being the only place to sell books. There are many non-traditional markets that buy books in large quantities with no returns. This is a great market sales made are guaranteed sales not consignment sales. Do not be afraid of the larger discounts when you make those large volume sales. The books you sell are actually SOLD.Think how much more pleasant a journey is if you know which fork in the road will lead you to smooth driving and which fork in the road will lead you through potholes. Knowing the most effective publishing steps before you print will make your publishing career fun and profitable. Copyright 2004 Ink Tree Ltd.

5 Good Reasons For Choosing An Audio Book

Did you know that audio books are becoming more and more popular by each day? For example, in 2004, over $124 million worth of audio books were sold in the UK and $120 million in Germany during 2005. Experts say that this year the market is expected to rise by 20% in Europe, and audio books seem to be even more popular in the USA.

But why are audio versions a convenient way to “read” a book?
1) You save time, because you can listen to an audio book anywhere and everywhere, and you can even do other things at the same time. You can listen when driving to and from work, when walking the dog, cycling, working around the house or at the computer, exercising, and so on. The possibilities are endless.

According to a recent survey, in the USA a person is driving an average of 1 hour and 13 minutes daily, which means over 440 hours a year for each driver, or 11 full-time work weeks. This is huge! Imagine how many things you could learn during this time by simply having your MP3 player with audio books at hand.

2) If you love reading but don’t have a enough time, audio books can give you the opportunity to read many more books that you would otherwise have time for. Audio books are a great way to fill the “dead” moments we all have in our lives.

3) Audio books are good for older, ill or recovering people and can be a wonderful gift for someone in a nursing institution. This is a gift they can remember and enjoy time after time.

4) Audio books can be a blessing for blind people, disabled people or people with impaired vision. Everyone should have the chance to experience and enjoy a book and in many cases, this is the only way for such persons to do it. Spoken books can help these people improving their education, help them developing new hobbies and habits and greatly enriching their life, both personally and professionally.

5) The most important skill a child can ever acquire is probably the ability to read, and audio books can be easily used to stimulate literacy in children. Books can be listened to by children while following the story in the paper book. Or they could listen just to gain and improve vocabulary and communication skills. If you want to instill in your child the love of reading, audio books can be a excellent start.

There are many more benefits of using audio books, but even these few reasons should be enough to convince you to enter the exciting world of the spoken books.

Marketing your book to your ministry will be easy as your flock can identify with you, the author personally. Better, because your book can also complement the ministerial effort of the church. Above all, you will have an advocate base for your book which will help you market your book. Church members telling their friends and relatives how rich and uplifting your book is. Your First Steps To Becoming A Writer

What’s the first step to becoming a writer? You’d think it would be “write”, but it’s not. In speaking to other writers and from what I know of my own journey to becoming a writer, I’ve come to realize that the biggest obstacle for new writers is that they don’t think of themselves as writers. They have trouble developing the belief that they are writers and yet it’s something you have to do. When you haven’t developed that belief, that conviction, it becomes a source of sabotage–you don’t value your work enough to give it the time and the space it needs. How do you come to think of yourself as a writer, especially when you’re not earning a paycheck as a writer? Here are a few tips:
What Happens When You Write?
If you want to be a writer, I’m assuming you feel you have something to say and a strong desire to say it. You may not know how you’re going to say it or in what form (poetry, novel, essay, etc.) but you know something is there. Okay, you pick up your pencil or pen or you sit down to your computer or typewriter. Write something. Whatever you write, just make sure your heart is in it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t have to be neat. It does have to be expressive.
Next, as painful as it may be, you have to show this writing to someone. It can be a friend, it can be a family member. Then, pay attention to what happens. Did the person reading your work cry, laugh or get angry? If so, you did that! It means you can have an effect with your writing. It’s worth something. You have to keep going!
A teenager recently wrote to me concerned because she’s writing fiction and she’s worried her mother will read it and get upset because she thinks it’s stuff the teenager really did. On the one hand, that is a bummer to have to explain yourself to your mother, but on the other hand–wow, that means the young lady’s work is believeable and effective. That kind of feedback is hard to ignore. It’s powerful motivation to keep you going–if you take the time to notice and honor that it’s happening. I once had a writer say to me, “I don’t know if my stuff is any good. I just know that when people read it, they cry.” I told her you can’t get a message any clearer than that kind of response. Now she just has to listen to it.
Cultivate Silence
If you’re having trouble thinking about what it is you have to say, it may help you to spend some time each day in silence. Some writers pray. Some meditate. The idea is to get used to clearing your brain space and tuning in to your inner voice. You’ll also be more aware of those little scraps of possibility floating around in your head that can later grow into big ideas.
What Do You Want to Write? Experiment!
It’s okay if you don’t know what you want to write about. It may take a long time journaling for you to see what keeps coming up for you. And it may take longer to find the form that fits you best. I went from poetry to essays to long-form letter writing before I settled on fiction. It took me years to do that. It doesn’t mean I won’t do anything else in those genres, but what I’m doing right now just fits. I encourage you to experiment until you find the form that suits your writing best.
Continually Remind Yourself You Are a Writer
As you develop your belief that you’re a writer, it’s helpful to set up reminders that will jog you back to that brain space that you need to be in to write. When you sit down to write it’s easy to get distracted and starting thinking about doing laundry or what’s for dinner. You’ll want to have something either on your desk or on the wall in front of you that reminds you to get back to work and that you are a writer.
It might be your list of values that remind you that writing is a part of who you are. It may be simple words such as CREATE or INSPIRE. Isabel Allende, who writes beautiful, historical novels will sit in her office with photos around her, old photos of people who essentially represent her characters so she’s surrounded by them. That puts her back into the brain space of her book because she is sitting in their world; these people are all around her.
What world do you need to be in? The journey you take to get there will be one of many you’ll take as a writer. I hope these ideas will help you take those first steps. What you write–and where you go from here–is entirely up to you. Bon Voyage.

Writing Ideas – How to Find the Missing Muse and

Writing Ideas – How to Find the Missing Muse and Overcome Writers Block

Writers block! Dreaded words for any writer and even more dreaded if you actually write for a living! What can you do when writers block strikes? One moment you are in the full flow of inspiration and every word and idea is your friend and the next…nothing! Writing ideas evaporate, words become illusive and your fingers just hover over the keyboard, not knowing where to strike.

Well, I have an idea! It may sound a little crazy and perhaps even a little obvious but why not write about how writers block makes you feel? Whether you are a creative story writer, a poetry writer, a journalist or any other kind of writer for that matter, how about using writers block as a writing prompt?

How does it make you feel when the ideas and words dry up?

1. Frustration
One of the first things I feel when ideas dont flow is frustrated. Perhaps even angry, wondering why words have suddenly dried up and deserted me. Try writing about how frustrated you feel.

2. Anxiety
If you depend on your writing to pay the bills, then anxiety is going to be right there mixed in with your frustration. Praying, begging your muse to return, desperate for the sentences to flow again so you can provide for your family. Why not write about how that feels?

3. Fear
Some writers genuinely feel afraid when they cant write. Writing makes them tick and expressing thought through the written word is their lifeblood, and fear and panic can set in very quickly, feeling as though they have lost a part of themselves. Write about your fears and losses.

4. Loneliness
For some writers, the words they write are like companions. Perhaps a novelist who is constantly creating characters and scenarios suddenly strikes out and feels alone. Story ideas have gone. Or maybe a poet loses his rhyme and rhythm.

The mind of a writer is a powerful tool and if it feels like its not working properly it can be a very lonely experience. Think about the loneliness and try to express it with words.

5. Recollection
Try to remember the last time you suffered from writers block. Remember that no matter how painful it was, it didnt last forever and that eventually, inspiration returned. Recall your psychological battles as you went through those experiences and jot them down.

I think you probably get the picture now. There are of course many other methods of fighting and overcoming writers block but perhaps this one can get you up and running again. Defeat the enemy where it stands. Beat writers block by writing about writers block! How cool is that!

Writeup On Glen Hooke Writer Of The Formula One Lottery

Writeup On Glen Hooke Writer Of The Formula One Lottery System.

Many authors of lottery systems are not actually players, Glen Hooke is. Being a player is what led him to create the Formula One Lottery system. His story could have happened to anyone. The difference is that he took advantage of it whereas others have not.

Like most of us, Glen Hooke was just an everyday person. Although he loved to play the lottery, his success rate was not very high. While determining which numbers to pick, he tried the same things most players do. He would get lucky numbers from family members. He would look at diagonals and lines that appeared to be winners.

Glen Hooke would also put all the numbers on pieces of paper and pull them out. He would try to dream numbers at night. These and other methods have been tried by most of us.

Doubting what he was doing, Glen Hooke wondered if he was just wasting his time and money. After being $28,000 down in 5 years, it had gotten to the point that he felt he needed to quit playing. But a lucky meeting changed his life and might even change yours.

Entering a bar one night, he seated himself next to a complete stranger. The lottery drawing came on TV and they both began to check their tickets. Glen Hooke hit only one number, not unusual for him. The other man, however, began to smile as the numbers were revealed.

At this point, Glen Hooke had to ask him how he did. The man responded that he picked 5 out of 6 numbers. Glen was impressed and asked how much money he had won. The man replied that he hadnt actually won any money. The man told him that it was just a hobby to see how many numbers he could choose correctly.

Glen Hooke started to ask the man questions and found out that he was a math professor at a university nearby. The man claimed to have created a formula based on math that could predict winning numbers 8 out of 10 times. This formula came from over 27 years of gathering information and statistics for over 50 games played worldwide.

Glen Hooke worked as IT expert and began to see the possibilities of using this formula to develop a winning lottery system. This could benefit not only his own playing but also help countless others.

Finally after weeks of conversations, Glen Hooke convinced the professor to allow him to use his formula. After actually trying it himself, he knew that with the professors formula and his ability to transfer it to easy to use software, it could become a great success. And he was right.

Glen Hooke worked with other computer programmers over the next 5 years to create his system. It turned out to be a very complex undertaking. The programmers had to take all of the professor’s 27 years of information and transform it into the idea that Glen wanted. He and the professor decided to do a field test with a group of randomly chosen players and record the findings.

After studying the results and their work became the Formula One Lottery System. And now you can take advantage of all this research and information. By learning from the wonderful story of Glen Hooke, we can all use it to our advantage.

Writer’s Unblock

Not long ago, I read a forum thread on writer’s block. Most of the respondents focused on why people experienced writer’s block: stress, fatigue, lack of focus, and scarce time to dedicate solely to writing were all mentioned. But regardless why a person feels creatively blocked, wouldn’t it be handy to have a reliable means of getting past it?

In one of my former lives, I was an English teacher. I occasionally asked my students to do a Freewrite activity. There was only one rule for this writing assignment: pencils must not stop making words during the allotted writing time, usually ten minutes. Grammar and spelling were of no consequence during a Freewrite. Sometimes I gave a springboard question or quote to get the reluctant started, but following it was not required. The writing that evolved from a Freewrite was entirely without limit in topic. Often students simply allowed their random thoughts to present themselves on paper. Words did not have to make sense together: strings of interesting phrases with no relation to each other were common.

Frequently, several students’ writings started nearly the same but quickly distinquished themselves according to each writer’s unique style and thoughts:

“I dont feel like writing today cause I’m so mad at my brother! We had a huge fight this morning because…”

“I don’t know what to write. Write write write. Funny word. Sounds like right. Sounds like rite. Rhymes with night…”

“I hate 2 right. I wanna skate. I got some baaaaaaad new decals 4 my board on my birthday….”

This exercise never failed to amaze me. When time was up, there was invariably at least one student who asked for “just another couple minutes.” Once in a while, the student begging for more was the very same one who had put up the fiercest resistance at the beginning of the Freewrite time.

The Freewrite method works for several reasons:
* Ten minutes is not too overwhelming a time block to contend with, so stress is low.
* Because there is no pressure to product “right” words, stress drops even lower.
* Limited time forces even the most scattered and undisciplined of minds to focus.
* If a person is too consumed by another matter to write about a given topic, writing about that non-topic matter is perfectly acceptable.

If the Freewrite method can work for actively resistant ninth-grade students, imagine the possibilities it presents to the more seasoned writer! Next time you feel stymied by a blank page or monitor, try granting yourself a very small block of writing time, turning off that irritating self-editor in your brain, and jotting the disconnected thoughts that float unbidden across your consciousness. You just may discover you have a whole lot more to write about than you realized!
